Working for the Future.....
On April 1, 2008 the Assiniboine Hills Conservation District (AHCD) became
the 18th Conservation District in Manitoba.
In 2006 meetings began with Mid Assiniboine and Tiger Hills Conservation Districts with the idea of merging and expanding, with new partners,to form a district. The purpose of the expansion was to provide a truer boundary alignment to the Central Assiniboine Sub Watershed.
As a result, on April 1st, 2008, under the name Assiniboine Hills, the district now represents
the R.M.'s of Argyle, Cornwallis, Glenwood, Riverside, Strathcona, South Cypress, Oakland,
Whitewater, the Villages of Glenboro and Wawanesa, and the Town of Souris.
Divided into six sub districts, the 2010-11 board members are: Board Chair - Heather Dalgleish - Epinette/Willow Subdistrict Vice Chair - Hugh Stephenson - Oak Creek Subdistrict, Lonnie Dunlop - Pelican/Rock Lake Subdistrict, Gordon Beddome - Little Souris Subdistrict, Reinie Weenink - Lower Souris Subdistrict, Sam Phillips - Elgin Creek Subdistrict Jim Abernethy - Epinette/Willow Subdistrict.
Integrated Watershed Managment Plan aka IWMP's are listening to the public and working towards solutions for the future.
AHCD along with it's many external partners are committed to natural resource management and sustainable rural development.
AHCD will continue to make programs available to local residents programs that have been designed and developed by each Sub District committee.
AHCD Mission: To manage water and environmental resources to promote a healthy watershed and sustainable lifestyle for current and future generations.
