Assiniboine Hills 2008 Display Contest

2010 Youth Conservation Display Competition

'Involving our Youth in Conservation'

Grade 4 - 8 Students, Teachers, 4-H Leaders & Parents

Each year Manitoba's Conservation Districts have come together at the annual convention, to showcase the accomplishments and successes of the Conservation District's program. The youth competitions are an important part of the annual convention, because they provide an opportunity for students to get involved as well as provide delegates with an opportuntiy to view the youth's perspective on the environment.

Objective: To provide students with an avenue to showcase their presentation skills while learning about various aspects of conservation. This competition compliments the Grade 4 Science - Rocks Minerals and Erosion, Grade 7 Science on Ecosystems and Grade 8 Science - Water curricula.

Display Criteria: Displays do not have to focus on the conference theme but must be conservation related. The display must:

  • Be able to stand alone or table top design
  • May consist of physical models, posters, objects or any combination thereof
  • Must fit into an eight foot display area
  • May be an individual or group effort (2-3 students maximum)

Students are to keep in mind that displays must be interesting, appealing, and portable and must be kept within the size limit as this is the maximum display space available to each project. Students will be required to explain their project to the judges. The students are welcome to base their display on this year's theme but are not obligated to do so. Their display may relate to any environmental (global or local) issue of choice.

Each conservation district is reponsible for holding their own local competition and can choose up to a maximum of two displays to represent their district at the MCDA Youth Display Competition, which will be held at the Convention. One winner will be chosen by a panel of judges and the MCDA will present the winner with a monetary award at the banquet.

Assiniboine Hills Conservation District is once again providing you with an avenue to showcase your presentation skills, while learning about various aspects of conservation. wf_1
